What are Sephiria artifacts?

Sephiria artifacts are the inventory pieces that carry stats, elemental lean, companions, economy, and quirks. They are not Miracles and not Anvil weapon upgrades — they live on the grid and scale with level.

Why placement is the USP

Steam calls out arranging Artifacts and empowering them with Tablets. Collecting alone is storage; seating with open sides for Tablets is the build. Treat the inventory like a second combat system.

Shapes and constraints

Many pieces have physical shapes and placement constraints (row locks, rotation limits, “top row only,” etc.). Preview before locking — dumping into the first empty square creates dead adjacency.

Once you know what an Artifact is, the next skill is seating it so Tablets can do their job.

How do I place Artifacts on the grid?

Place the piece you care about first. Every Tablet that touches empty air is wasted power — adjacency beats rarity.

Companion / planet pieceKeep surround free for its kitBurying under fillers early
Position-sensitive pieceMatch the side / row the tooltip namesIgnoring Scale-style side effects

  • Do01Open inventory after every Artifact or Tablet pickup
  • Do02Seat the primary Artifact with maximum free orthogonal sides
  • Do03Preview level changes before confirming a rearrange
  • Do04Park awkward shapes in the side bag until the primary is locked
  • Do05Expand inventory slots when good pieces are waiting — not before you have a primary
  • Do06Draft layouts on the inventory planner if you want a sandbox

Side bag and Journal

Use the side bag for awkward shapes that would break a working board. Journal tracks discovered Artifacts so next-run recognition is faster — pause after bosses and skim new entries.

Levels and rarity decide how hard you invest Enchantment — that is next.

How do rarity, levels, and Enchantment work?

Rarity is the drop band; level is the real power slider. Enchantment altars and Tablet adjacency raise levels — do not Enchant every Common equally.

LayerWhat it meansPlayer action
Common / AdvancedEasy to find; fine as Tablet hostsSeat well; Enchant only if it is the spine
Rare / LegendaryStronger baselines; still need adjacencyProtect sides; Enchant before fillers
Artifact levelScales the tooltip numbersTablets first, Enchantment on the primary
Enchantment nodeAltar raise for one ArtifactSpend on the piece carrying the fantasy
PreviewInspect level curves before lockingNever guess mid-combat

Enchantment discipline

Enchantment is a node choice, not free power. Upgrade the Artifact that already has Tablets touching it. Spreading +1 across six fillers leaves every piece mediocre into Chapter bosses.

Level floor warning

Some Tablets apply level-down edges. Artifacts pushed to level −1 or below go inert — park penalties on empty tiles, other Tablets, or inventory edges. Full geometry lives on Tablets.

Tags decide which Artifacts belong on the same board — next section.

How do combo tags and synergies work?

Focused tags beat a museum of strong-but-unrelated Legendaries. Build around Lightning, Frost, Flame / Grimoire, companions, shield sustain, or economy — then refuse off-tag glitter.

Position effects

Some Artifacts change bonuses by grid side or row (community examples include Scale of Conflict-style side swaps and top-row elemental bonuses). Read the tooltip every rearrange — the same piece can be “wrong” one tile over.

Anvil handshake

Once tags are locked, prefer Anvil evolutions that match the board. Flame grids want fire grafts; lightning costumes want conductor branches. Full templates: builds.

Node forks still offer Jar and Combiner traps — filter them next.

When do I take Jar, Combiner, or Enchantment?

Mid-run inventory nodes decide whether the board stays online. Use this table instead of greed-by-default.

Shop and Leaves

Buy potions before shopping novelty Artifacts. Economy Artifacts are build pieces only after you stop dying to empty belts.

Named roster next — know the community landmarks even when icons are missing.

Which named Artifacts should I know?

Community wiki / guide names (Miraheze · Steam guides · placement writeups). Icons upload when reliable renders exist — until then, use lean + note columns.

Where roster meets builds

Do not chase a Tier 30 shopping list before Destiny unlocks catch up. Spine + adjacency first — named rankings later. See builds and tier list.

Finally: the failure modes that waste good drops.

Which Artifact mistakes softlock a run?

Most failed boards die to process errors, not because the wrong Legendary dropped.

  • Avoid01Parking a Legendary with zero Tablet neighbors
  • Avoid02Enchanting every Common before the primary
  • Avoid03Jar / Combiner before Chapter 1 potions exist
  • Avoid04Burying companion Artifacts under fillers
  • Avoid05Ignoring placement constraints until combat starts
  • Avoid06Collecting off-tag Legendaries that steal Tablet sides

Co-op note

Trade Artifacts so one player finishes a tag board instead of splitting three half-boards. Details on co-op guide.

FAQ

Are Sephiria artifacts the same as Miracles?

No. Artifacts are run inventory pieces on the grid; Miracles come from Tree Roots / meta picks. See Miracles.

Do Artifacts work without Tablets?

Yes at base level — but Tablets and Enchantment are how strong pieces reach their ceiling. Empty adjacency wastes drops.

What rarities exist?

Community wiki lists Common, Advanced, Rare, and Legendary for Artifacts. Eternal-tier mentions show up more often on Tablets.

Should I always take Mysterious Jar?

No. Skip early — you need slots and a primary more than same-tier gambles.

Where do I plan layouts?

Use the inventory planner placeholder, then validate in a live run.

How do Artifacts fit builds?

Templates on builds — weapon spine plus Artifact + Tablet job.
